Knowing and Doing: The Gap
It's said that the biggest gap that exists is between knowing and doing. Here's an example...nearly every financially successful person will tell you they have read Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. When you read this book, you learn that there is actually a process for becoming rich and it starts with what you allow your mind to think about. He lays out a step-by-step process that must be repeated daily over time. In other words, you must actually take action and do something beyond just thinking. This book has been a best seller for decades. Millions of people have read it and KNOW the contents of the book, but how many people have taken the daily action that Hill describes in his book? This is the DOING. Those of us who contribute to the $11 billion personal development industry love to read these types of books, listen to the CDs, attend the conferences. How many people actually implement what they've learned. Next time you read a book that inspires you with new knowledge, take the time to implement what you've learned. Like in school, the teacher would teach and then you had to do the homework to reinforce what you'd learned and then it would become part of who you were. Don't miss this important step of DOING! |
